Our speaker on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 was Brad Langsather, City of Helena Open Lands Manager. Brad oversees the significant volume of open space land adjoining Helena, including efforts at fire fuels mitigation, which was the subject of his discussion. In short, it takes a lot of funding, labor and constant land management to keep up with mother nature. Comparative photos of Helena over the last 150 years were starkly revealing as to the amount of vegetation that poses fire threat to the city and surrounding areas. Part of the mitigation effort includes slash burning as demonstrated in the photo above.
